TAType is the independent retail foundry of Tharique Azeez, dedicated to engineering typefaces that bridge the gap between raw information and human emotion.
I believe that typography is more than just infrastructure—it is the architecture of language. When we read, we don't just process words; we process a tone of voice, a cultural history, and a visual rhythm.
The Dual-Script Philosophy
My core focus lies at the intersection of Tamil and Latin scripts. Designing for a singular script is an exercise in aesthetics, but designing multi-script typefaces is an exercise in cultural diplomacy.
Tamil is a language of flowing, continuous curves with a rich, ancient heritage, while Latin often relies on rigid, structural stems. Finding the harmony between these two opposing visual systems requires rigorous engineering. When global brands and complex editorial platforms need to speak to diverse audiences without losing their visual identity, a beautifully balanced dual-script typeface is essential.
The Process
Every typeface released by TAType is the result of thousands of hours of research, drawing, testing, and refinement. I build fonts not just to be looked at, but to be used. From heavy display serifs that demand attention on a poster, to rational grotesques optimized for dense UI environments, performance is never sacrificed for style.
